Phnom Penh

Flew out from Siem Reap and landed in Phnom Penh mid-morning.

There were police and lining the soldiers all the way from the airport to the city centre - apparently the Prime Minister was making a visit to a rural area and we were taking the same route as him.

Refreshed ourselves in the hotel before walking to Wat Phnom and descending the stairs, every forth step occupied by a landmine victim - another confronting reality of life in Cambodia.

At the top of the hill there was a child with a cage of birds, so we gave him a little cash and mum and I both set a bird free. It was so cool to see it fly from your hands, ascend into the blue sky, and watch as it became smaller and smaller as the distance between it and the cage grew. We all joked that they were probably homing sparrows, but nevertheless, it was a cool little experience.

We then went for lunch on the river front before meeting the tuk tuk driver Mr Borin had organised for us (a friend) to be taken to the palace, then the markets.
